9/30/09 - Someday Lounge w/  Very International Love & Serious Business!

This is our last show. 2 members are quitting to pursue other interests and I'm not interested in teaching my songs to any more musicians who did not help write them to begin with. It's bad for group solidarity.

I'll be starting a fully collaborative new project after September. If you are interested in playing music with me in any fashion, please use the contact page to send me a message. I'd be happy to hear out and musicians.

And now the cliche but nevertheless (wildly) sincere post-band breakup statement of gratitude:

Thank you to anyone who has come to the shows and especially all of those that kept coming back and keeping me focused.  All the support I've gotten has been unbelievable and I can't wait to get back with a new project to keep playing music for everyone.

Keep checking back here after September for (hopefully) an eventual posting of a free download of our last show and new posthumous EP and a link eventually to my new project.  In the meantime, come on see Danielle, Mike, & I from Babies play Danielle's amazing songs in Paschal Coeur, a project that is doing very well.  See you September 30th, Someday Lounge.

All of my love,, all of my love to you, yea,
Tim John O'Brien

04.16.09 At the Know

Well hot dog, hot damn.  We had a great show at the Know the other evening with the very tight Van Go Lion.  The night had the audience dancing and a portion of the band wandering (read: leaping) off the stage frequently to join them.  Big thanks to the Know and Seth at booking for putting it all together so quickly and smoothly.

The aftermath saw us continue the dance party into karaoke territory for a few hours where many rousing interpretations of popular songs were rolled out.

On that note, I promised last post that I'd reveal our favorite songs to do in Karaoke and our favorite PDX places to do them, considering Babies' massive love for the art.

Andrew Cecka "Easy Like Sunday Morning" by L. Ritchie
Favorite PDX Spot Alibi
Performance at the Know "Dancing With Myself" by Billy Idol
Tim John O'Brien "Sweet Jane" by Velvet Underground
Favorite PDX Spot The Know & Ladd's Inn
Performance at the Know "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats
Travis Evans "Pour Some Sugar On It" by Def Leppard
Favorite PDX Spot Chopsticks
Performance at the Know "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred
Ian Oneacre "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash
Favorite PDX Spot Chopsticks
Performance at the Know "Darling Nikki" by Prince

04.13.09 In the Know

Thank you to everyone who came to Ash Street Saloon for our show the other evening.  It was a smash!

And furthermore, we are playing a wild short notice show at the Know this Wednesday the 15th!  Wacky shit.  They contacted us the other night, and all of us Babies are on board, so come on out to that crazy fringe venue on Alberta known as the Know.

It'll be at about 8 o'clock with Van Go Lion and I hear that things are just going to keep going after the live music with some Karaoke so look out.

With that in mind, soon to come on this newsline, the question on everybody's mind, what are all of the BGR members favorite songs to do in Karaoke and their favorite PDX spot to roll them out?  I know I've rolled out a rousing "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" with Danielle Fish and that I've seen Travis do some shameless 80's Butt-Rock classics such as Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on It" (all at SE's sketchy Ladd's Inn).  But let's really get to the heart of it.

Portland's own blog 2GQ blog gave us a great review of our show at Dunes:

"Bars don't have that blue smoke hanging in the air anymore, but Dunes has apparently decided to remedy this with a smoke machine mounted on the ceiling, which I thought was sort of funny, as if we all need the illusion of a smoky bar even if it isn't actually smoky anymore. It did make a pretty little glow out of the video installation backing Paschal Coeur and Babies Got Rabies. Babies came out rocking, a departure from their normal, more introspective, synth-heavy Talking Heads meets Joy Division sort of sound. Frontman Tim John O'Brien showed up with a considerable presence, a little moody and a little bit pop, like a latter-day Serge Gainsbourg. Danielle Fish's voice had a lot of angsty sincerity in her Paschal set which was unfortunately buried in her backing vocals for Babies. The finest song without a doubt was "Burning Things Fall," delivered here with a caustic, driving backbeat and O'Brien's husky, detached baritone.

They have another show coming up at the new Satyricon on Tuesday, March 10th, opening with Paschal Coeur again and also Perspective on Energy + Andrew Cecka. Looking forward to seeing what rock-electro balance they work out.

We just got done playing our first show with a full band at Dunes, pics are up and even more can be found at our MySpace page.  Dig em up.  Andrew Cecka on synth and Ian Oneacre on acoustic and electronic drums.  We'd like to thank Dunes for an enjoyable evening.

Check us out at the Satyricon Tuesday, March 10th with Paschal Coeur, John O'Mara, and Perspectives On Energy together with Andrew Cecka.

12.29.08 New Photos!

There are new photos and they are full of hijinks & tomfoolery!

11.02.08 Spotlight on solo work

Since everyone in this band has some form of independent music, I'd like to call some attention to the work done by everyone outside the band.

09.24.08 So long, Josh. Welcome aboard, Danielle!

Our bass player, Josh, is bidding us a fond farewell to pursue his pH.D.  We thank him for being a bitchin' bass player and a good friend.

Moving right along, I'm very excited to welcome Danielle Fish into Babies.  She's an amazing individual and we're extremely happy to have her aboard.  Danielle is a very talented multi-instrumentalist and solo-maker-of-songs-that-are-pretty in her own right.  I ain't lyin', google dat shit..  or just check out the the video or link to her other songs on our "Others" page.

08.04.08 New lineup!

First off, thanks for everybody who tuned in to the KBOO radio show featuring our interview and live performance.

On another very important, very exciting note, Babies is expanding.  I've relocated to Portland, Oregon to find more musicians to work with.  BGR now includes two more very amazing, versatile, and bad-ass musicians.  Both are talented multi-instrumentalists and terrific additions to the sound.

Portland native Travis Evans is taking over guitar and synth work.  He's very impressive and has my full confidence.  Look forward to hearing his touch on multiple synth units and guitar live very soon.

"I've Always Known You Like I Always Have"

The EP collaboration between Bed & Breakfast and Babies Got Rabies is in the final stages of post-production.  We've settled on the above title for the collection and it'll be available for download by July 20th.

Eric (B&B) and I are very excited about this release, it was a lot of hard work but incredible fun.  It was recorded in the "Creative Farming Studios"..  which is basically just a barn.  We completed 8 songs in 5 nights and lived off bread loaves and coffee.

We can't wait for you to hear it.

Babies Got Rabies + Bed & Breakfast

Over the second half of June, BGR is holing up in a barn outside of a small town in rural Wisconsin.

"Why would anybody do that?" is what you may be thinking.

To record a collaboration with one of my best friends Eric Diedrick.  Eric calls himself "Bed & Breakfast" and was the one, many years ago, who taught me how to play music in the first place.  I'll have photos of the sessions up as soon as I have photos of the sessions.

The EP will be released right here as a collaboration.  We have no idea what to expect so it is going to be very exciting.  This will be a reunion of about 2 or 3 years.

05.031.08 Bonus Page Easter Egg!

I've planted a link to a bonus page somewhere on the website where you can download unreleased music that I've posted.  There will be more and more as time progresses so be sure to check back once you've found it.  I promise, it won't be that difficult.  Especially with the clue below.

Here is your clue:  MARC BOLAN

05.07.08 NEW RELEASE:

The newest release by Babies Got Rabies is proudly available for the wild price of absolutely free!

"The latest and newest chapter of BGR's releases, "The Buoyant EP" taps into new sounds and fresh angles.  The pieces deliver experimental methods and concepts but in clever pop packages.  This effort shows more direction than any EP previous, as well as a fresh percussive lyrical approach.

Within the 6 tracks you'll hear rhythm-heavy compositions that feature a vintage drum machine, samples, toy instruments, circuit-bent equipment, and traditional band instruments, with themes that range from Taoism to equality to zombies to abandon."

05.07.08 New Website!

This is the first post for the new Babies Got Rabies website!  It will feature all kinds of things that the old website, although known for its charming simplicity, lacked.  For instance it will include pictures, a download page for quick and painless, and as usual, free downloading of all of my material.  It will also feature a merchandise page shortly where you can buy limited edition BGR t-shirts and random objects from around the BGR studio that hold no value!  You never know what you're going to get!
